Rova
Tucked into the historic Christmas Steps in Bristol, Rova Editions is a haven for lovers of print and design. This independent shop curates a global selection of hard-to-find magazines, art books, and cult stationery, all with a focus on craftsmanship and independent publishing. From architecture and fashion to food, photography, and politics, every item on the shelf is chosen with care, no mass-market titles, no filler, just beautifully made things that invite you to slow down and dig in.
Founded by Paul Baxter, Rova is more than a shop, it’s a tactile experience. The space itself is a collaboration with local makers: hand-painted signage by Tozer Signs, custom tables by Arc Makers, and plant life from nearby Fancy Plants. Whether you’re browsing for a rare magazine, a thoughtfully designed notebook, or simply a moment of calm, Rova offers a quiet, curated corner of Bristol where analogue still thrives.
Everything here is independent. Absolutely everything we sell is. There is nothing here that you would find in other stationery and magazine shops, like WHSmith, or supermarkets.

About
Christmas Steps
Bristol
Popular with both tourists and locals, the Christmas Steps are a quintessential area of Bristol. Brimming with history, these steps were originally named Queene Street, after Queen Elizabeth the 1st visited in 1574. The steps themselves were built in September 1669, paid for by the wealthy wine merchant Jonathan Blackwell. The Christmas Steps have since become a must-visit stop for anyone visiting Bristol and quickly evoke images of these long gone days, due to the many listed, old-fashioned buildings and cobbled pathways, so it almost feels like you’re stepping into the past.
Now, it is lined with shops, cafés and bars for you to explore. Proudly supporting Bristol’s artists, you can find stunning artwork for sale by both well-known and upcoming artists. Browse the shelves of the shops housed here and see what curiosities you’ll find, from books to gifts to clothing and after, why not stop by one of the many pubs or cafés for a well earned drink.
