Penleigh Farm & Butchers
Penleigh Butchers is an accomplished story which incorporates the power of incredible dedication, strong local community support and commitment to the craft from owner Owen Singer and his family. Success for Penleigh’s was built on a life time’s experience working on their farm. Supplying meat to Frome and the surrounding area for over 10 years, the family have traded at The Frome Independent since 2013, serving sausages, bacon and other seasonal products directly to the public and local supermarkets. Their presence at the market lead to overwhelmingly positive feedback, along with many requests and suggestions to see them in a shop of their own which is now proudly located on Stony Street. Specialising in locally reared and rare breed meats from the Singer farm in Dilton Marsh, we can guarantee you’re in incredibly safe hands when you visit Penleigh’s. As you view the counters and talk to Owen, you’re talking to the farmer who reared the livestock as well as the man who butchers it. Choose from a selection of high quality, British meat, boasting low food miles and sustainable production. The meat is prepared fresh every day in the window, where children often enjoy watching the sausages being made. As well as preparing his own meats and hand-picked apple juice, Owen supports local farms in the surrounding area and stocks extraordinary pies and preserves from fellow small batch producers. Stop by this friendly family business and experience the quality service and incredible selection of local produce that keeps the local community coming back for more.
Here at Penleigh Farm & Butchers we believe in using rare breeds and traditional British breeds that grow slowly to develop better flavour. Quality, local produce is what we focus on and that is why we chose to expand our range to support other local producers.

The picturesque market town of Frome lies in the heart of Somerset, surrounded by vast swathes of open farmland, chalky ridges, undulating hills and valleys and generally stunning scenery at every turn. Explore the many cobblestone streets lined with an eclectic mix of independents and you’ll find everything from interior decor, quirky antiques and vintage clothing stores to children’s boutiques, florists and cafes. On the first Sunday of each month between March and December, the streets of Frome become a pedestrian playground and the town welcomes a pop up community of producers, crafters and makers. Stroll through hundreds of stalls celebrating the best from local producers at the farmers market on Stony Street or the artisanal trinket filled suitcases and prams at the “suitcase sale” on top of Catherine Hill. This unique market celebrates the independent movers and shakers in the South West and draws thousands of visitors each year.View neighbourhoodView community
